Garage doors can be really frustrating when they break down. And you know what’s usually to blame? Broken springs. They’re the main reason why garage doors stop working properly. But don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Our trucks are always stocked with all kinds of springs – torsion and extension – so we can fix the problem right away. Just give us a call and we’ll replace the spring on the same day. The best part? Our prices are pretty reasonable, starting at just $150.
A broken garage door spring is one of the most common — and most dangerous — garage door problems. When a spring breaks, your door won’t move. And if you try to force it, you risk serious injury or further damage to your system.
At Smart Garage Door Service, we get a lot of calls about fixing or replacing springs in the spring. Luckily, our trucks are always stocked with all kinds of springs, so we can usually take care of the problem on the same day you call us.
You’ll usually find extension springs on either side of the garage door, running along the horizontal tracks. These springs are designed to stretch and then contract, which helps to lift the door up and down. A lot of older garage doors still use extension springs, but it’s worth noting that they can be upgraded to torsion springs if needed. This can be a good idea, as torsion springs are often considered to be more reliable and safer to use.
Things can go wrong with either type – it’s just a matter of time. They might break after being used normally for years, or they could stop working because of metal fatigue, rust, or if they’re not taken care of properly.
Your garage door is acting up – it won’t budge or only opens a little bit. Then, you hear a loud noise coming from the garage, which is probably the spring breaking. When you try to open or close the door, it looks like it’s not aligned properly. You can see that the spring coil is damaged, and when you try to open the door manually, it feels really heavy.
We use specialized tools and expert training to replace high tension springs safely, preventing injury or further damage.

Most standard torsion springs are rated for 10,000 cycles. This means that for a spring that is installed on a single garage door, it will last for approximately 7 years if the door is used 4 times per day (i.e. opened and closed 4 times per day). If you have an opener that is installed on a double garage door, the springs would be expected to last for less time because the door is used more frequently. However, there are higher cycle rated springs available that are designed for use on doors that are used frequently (i.e. 25,000+ cycles). These would be a good option for you if you plan on using your garage door frequently.
